The preparation of the following work has been delayed by the difficulty of obtaining authentic data, no regular records of the Church having been kept until a comparatively recent period. The delay, however, has enabled the writer to state some interesting facts which otherwise would have been omitted, and to continue the work to a later period. The authorities on which he has mainly relied are given at the close of each article.
For the information of those who may not have an opportunity to consult works on Ecclesiastical History, brief historical notices of the Puritans, the Huguenots, the Scotch, and the Scotch-Irish have been prefixed.
